One of the newest things out there when it comes to scooters is the Segway scooter. This is a special scooter that operates on two wheels, it has been basically developed to try and take the place of automobiles in big cities. A Bit of History
The Segway scooter was actually invented by Dean Kamen and his new invention first came out in volume back in 2002. There are two types of scooters that he has designed, and one is designed for in town traffic, so it is smaller, while the other is designed for those who have longer ranges to travel. At first these scooters started out costing about $10,000 a piece; however, there are plans to reduce those prices so they are more affordable to the general public.
Lightweight and Small
One of the benefits of the Segway scooter is that is made to be very lightweight and small. Kamen realized that it takes quite a bit of maneuvering to get around in a busy city, and the p-series is made on a personal small level with a wheelbase that is slim enough to allow you to get around easily, even on crowded streets and sidewalks. The scooter is light as well, and the personal one only weights 65 pounds, so it is easy to store as well.
Balance Control
The Segway scooter also comes with an excellent system for balance control. There are two motors on these scooters, and one powers each wheel. Whenever you shift your balance while you are on the Segway, it will actually adjust to make sure that you do not lose your balance and tip over. Also, it helps to make sure that when you are going faster, you don’t lose your balance and tip over when you are going around a corner of making quick moves.
Great for Short Travel in the City
If you just need something to help you get around in the city, then a Segway scooter is an excellent choice. Most people probably will not want to use a Segway for long distances, but for short trips in a crowded city, they are definitely a great choice. They will also help you save on gas as well, and you won’t have to worry about getting stuck in traffic jams either, since you can easily navigate down the sidewalk to your destination.
A Long Lasting Scooter
Another great thing about the Segway scooter is that it is designed to be long lasting. It is estimated that this scooter should last you at least 10 years, which means you will definitely get the most for your money when you purchase a Segway.
